Lowerland, Tolbos Tannat 2021

Lowerland specialises in small-batch, natural wines from fully organic vineyards in Prieska, South Africa. Their high altitude desert climate, with cooling river breezes, yield grapes with small berries and wines with complex concentrations of fruit. Doing everything in harmony with nature, they believe in their mantra of producing wines from "soil to soul". Tolbos Tannat 2021 is made from 100% organically farmed Tannat; which, for those new to the grape, is very similar to Malbec. And much like the latter, this wine is packed full of flavours of juicy blueberry, black cherry, smoke, cedar and tobacco. Grippy tannins, a bright acidity and an almost never-ending finish make this wine a perfect partner with hearty grilled foods. Drinking well now, but will continue to develop over the next 5-10 years.
